Lives and works in Rome

Antonella Romano (1986) started studying painting in 2006 with the artist Alberto Parres.

She graduated in International Relations and got a master's degree in Law and Economics in Rome. She studied visual art at Rome University of Fine Arts - RUFA paying particular attention to figurative art.

Her work is marked by a strong interest in social studies, focusing on the individual/context relationship and on the development of society around the subject.

The research stems from the need to explore the fragile boundary between presence and absence, familiar and unfamiliar, introspectively dwelling on the concept of home in its different dimensions: real, imaginary and symbolic. Furthermore, her interest is placed on the definition of identity and how it is influenced by social, political and economic context.

In her paintings and installations, she chooses to combine different techniques and materials, in order to express the peculiar emotional nature of the composition, passing through the logic of decomposition, both real and symbolic.

The subjects are reinterpreted in the light of their relationships, symbolically woven also with light, background and matter.
