S T A T E M E N T
I constantly look at definitions and labels with doubt, paying attention to themes such as heritage, power and fear, and how they have been managed within society over time. More generally, my interest is focused on forms, language and ethics of representation.
Using an interdisciplinary approach, my art practice investigates the role of visual representation in cultural memory, identity and power dynamics. Through painting, drawings, print techniques and installations, I explore the fluidity of reality perception in the multi-layered contemporary context, deliberately mixing historical and iconic or stereotypical images with anonymous and private ones carefully chosen from different sources like magazines, newspapers, or the web (especially social media).
I am interested in what representation can do, twisting the language and working with it. For me, one of the most crucial things is creating a psychologically charged space where viewers can make their narrative, exploring figures' ambiguity and representation's fluidity.
